OUR TIA/TIO MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

So why do we call ourselves a "Familia"?

Ballet Folklorico de CSUF takes pride in not only teaching our members different regions and their respective dance steps but we are extremely proud to provide our members with a mentorship system between our older, more
experienced members and our younger folkloristas.

Each new member can receive a mentor, whom we call "tio or tia" literally an uncle or an aunt. In turn, the new member becomes the tio’s “sobrino” or “sobrina” (nephew or niece). The tios of the group provide guidance by helping their sobrinos with whatever they may need. This system crates long lasting friendships not only in folklorico but in the members’ academic and personal life.
